The No. 18 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (31-8) made it six victories in a row with a doubleheader sweep of King (22-21), 6-0 and 3-2, Thursday afternoon at Bears Field. In addition, the Bears snapped the Tornado's 10-game winning streak.

Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 6, King 0

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) threw her second straight shutout as the Bears prevailed in the first contest.

Hoskins (14-5) limited the Tornado to just four hits in addition to striking out nine batters and walking none.

Lenoir-Rhyne opened the scoring with a three-run second inning aided by a pair of King errors.

Senior shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) added a two-run home run, her team-leading ninth of the season, in the sixth inning and finished with three runs batted in to lead the Bears offensively.

King's Hannah Light (Coeburn, Va.) fell to 21-14 on the year after taking the loss.

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 3, King 2 (eight innings)

Lenoir-Rhyne scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 2-1 deficit to complete the doubleheader sweep.

L-R senior shortstop Ciera Cockerham (Yadkinville, N.C.) came through with the walk-off double, scoring sophomore pinch hitter Lauren Elder (Taylorsville, N.C.). Cockerham led the Bears with three hits in the contest.

L-R freshman catcher Sarah Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) added a solo home run while Hoskins (15-5) retired three batters in relief in the top of the eighth inning to earn the win.

For King, Fallon Thomas (Bristol, Va.) finished with two hits and drove in a run which broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth but Morgan Lowe (Damascus, Va.) (1-7) suffered the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference action this Saturday in a doubleheader at home against Lincoln Memorial beginning at 1:00 p.m. King, meanwhile, hosts Mount Olive on Sunday in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
