Appalachian State University softball pitcher Alissa Schoelkopf (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was named the North Carolina Education Lottery Southern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Schoelkopf most recently set a season-high for strikeouts in a game with 10 in her most recent start on the road at conference foe Samford. The junior pitched 7.1 innings, allowing just five hits and three runs to go along with her season-high strikeout total.
The 10 strikeouts ended up being one shy of her career-high which was set last season against Wichita State when Schoelkopf struck out 11 batters. For her career, Schoelkopf has struck out 213 batters in an Appalachian State uniform which is good for seventh all-time in program history just five shy of sixth place on the career strikeout list.
Schoelkopf is striking out more than a batter per inning this season with 55 strikeouts in just 51.2 innings pitched in 2014.
An exercise science major, Schoelkopf holds a 3.45 GPA in the classroom.
