The original release follows:
Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads are giving local fans some extra incentive to watch the San Francisco Giants on Opening Day this year, thanks to former South Caldwell High School standout Madison Bumgarner being named the Giants Opening Day starting pitcher.
In honor of Bumgarner becoming the first ever Hickory-born player to make an Opening Day start, the 'Dads are encouraging fans to root for the lefty more than normal. If the Bumgarner earns the win for the Giants in their March 31 opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the 'Dads will honor his South Caldwell HS jersey No. 5 by offering $5 tickets to 5 games during their Opening Week home stand. The deal will be offered for the first 5 hours of business (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) on April 1.
"It's an awesome achievement for a very deserving young man," said Crawdads Assistant GM and Caldwell County native Charlie Downs. "I can only imagine the pride that Madison and his family are feeling, and also his entire fan base in Caldwell County. We'll definitely be rooting for him on Opening Day and for the rest of the season."
Bumgarner, 24, was born in Hickory, North Carolina in 1989. The southpaw went on to lead the South Caldwell HS Spartans to the 4A State Championship in 2007 before being drafted 10th overall by the Giants later that same year.
The 2013 All-Star went 13-9 with a 2.77 ERA last year, and was a key member of the Giants World Series titles in both 2010 and 2012.

Crawdads Pitching Rotation Revealed
The Hickory Crawdads have announced the pitching rotation for the beginning of the 2014 season, with right-hander Cole Wiper scheduled to take the mound for the 'Dads season opener April 3 in Greensboro.
Joining Wiper in the rotation will be fellow righties Akeem Bostick and David Ledbetter, along with left-handers Yohander Mendez and Aliangel (Frank) Lopez. The planned rotation would set up Ledbetter to be the 'Dads starter for the Home Opener on April 10.
Wiper, 21, spent 2013 pitching for the Arizona League Rangers after being drafted out of the University of Oregon in the 10th Round. The 6'4", 183-pound righty went 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA, with 26 strikeouts over 25.1 innings. A native of Bellevue, WA, Wiper missed the entire 2012 season with Oregon after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and threw only 12.2 frames with the Ducks in 2013.
Bostick, 18, comes to Hickory after also spending the 2013 season in the AZL. Listed at 6'4", 180 lbs, Bostick accumulated a 4-1 record and a 2.83 ERA over six starts and eight relief appearances last year. The Florence, SC native was a 2nd Round pick by the Texas Rangers in the 2013 Draft out of West Florence High School and is currently listed as the No. 11 prospect in the Rangers organization by Baseball America.
Ledbetter, 21, went 3-3 with a 2.93 ERA while making 13 starts for the short-season Spokane Indians in 2013. A native of Fishers, IN, Ledbetter was selected in the 3rd Round of the 2013 Draft out of Cedarville University (OH). His twin brother, and fellow pitcher, Ryan was also drafted out of Cedarville University by the Rangers in the 19th Round, making the brothers the first two players ever drafted from the school. Baseball America rated David as the No. 19 prospect in the Rangers system heading into this season.
Mendez, 19, spent the 2013 season as a member of the Spokane rotation, going 1-2 with a 3.78 ERA over eight starts. The 6'4", 178 lbs southpaw was signed by the Rangers in 2011 out of Venezuela, before spending the 2012 season pitching in the Dominican Summer League.
Lopez, 20, returns to Hickory after spending the 2013 season with the Crawdads. The Venezuelan lefty went 3-7 with a 4.79 ERA over 16 starts for the 'Dads last year, striking out 79 over 73.1 IP. The 6'1", 175 lbs hurler was signed by the Rangers in 2010, and spent the 2011 season in the Dominican Summer League before pitching in the AZL in 2012.
The Crawdads open the season on Thursday, April 3 in Greensboro before playing their home opener at the newly renovated Crawdads Stadium on Thursday, April 10. Tickets are now on sale for all 70 'Dads home games, as well as the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 17.
