Appalachian State University men’s tennis player Sebastien King (Montreal, Quebec, Canada/George Vanier) has been named as the Southern Conference

Player of the Week for the week of March 24-31, the league office announced Tuesday.

The honor marks his first Player of the Week award this season and the third of his career at App State.

King finished the week with a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play as he helped lead the Mountaineers to wins over league foes Davidson (6-1) and The Citadel (7-0).

In singles play, King picked up a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot with victories over Robert Lightbourn of Davidson (6-0, 6-3) and The Citadel’s Elliot Sperr (6-4, 6-4). He also teamed up with Zach Bost (Jefferson, Ga./Jefferson) for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles.

The duo took down the Wildcat pairing of Lightbourn/Connor Evins (8-2) and the Bulldog team of Sperr/Peter Bleach (8-3).

On the year, King and Bost have gone 9-3 in doubles play including a perfect 4-0 mark against SoCon foes as the Mountaineers have remained unbeaten in league play and are just one game behind conference leaders Furman and Elon, who sport 5-0 league records.

Appalachian is back in action on Thursday when it hosts Furman in a battle of two of the league’s top teams. The Mountaineers and Paladins are set to square off at 2:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.
