The Lees-McRae men's tennis was blanked by No. 30 Limestone, 9-0, in Conference Carolinas play on a warm Monday afternoon at the LMC Tennis Courts in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Saints (7-6, 3-2 CC) bounced back from recent struggles with their second win in six matches. The Bobcats (3-9, 0-5) fell two points short of wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles.
Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Garrett Lakey (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) pushed Antoine Le Dore and Stefano Soares to the limit in No. 1 doubles, however, the LC duel eked out a 9-7 win.
The Saints Giacomo Campus and Benji Lascari Diaz defeated LMC's Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) in tight 8-6 decision at No. 2 doubles.
Araujo took the first set with breeze, 6-0, but dropped the following two 6-3, 6-1, to Le Dore at No. 1 singles.
Lak Choi fell short in scrappy 6-0, 7-5, play to Lucas Guinski at No. 3 singles.
LMC plays its third of four consecutive home matches when it welcomes Belmont Abbey Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Women's Tennis Bested By Limestone, 9-0
The Lees-McRae women's tennis team fell in a Conference Carolinas match to Limestone, 9-0, at the LMC Tennis Courts on a beautiful Monday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Saints (6-6, 4-1 CC) reached the .500 clip while notching their fourth conference win. The Bobcats (1-11, 0-5) saw impressive play from their top trio despite the loss.
Junior Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) hung tough at No. 1 singles, but was unable to overcome Alexandra Boulbin in a 6-4, 6-1 loss.
Sophomore Hillary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) fell short in tightly-contested No. 2 singles action against Marian Pinate, 6-2, 6-4.
Wohlers and Lutz dropped an 8-6 bout at No. 1 doubles.
LMC travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to battle Converse at 2 p.m.
