The Bulldogs scored twice in the third inning and held on in the end to beat the Bears.

Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) and Kayla Saliga (Asheboro, N.C.) each connected on run-scoring singles in the frame while Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) threw a four-hitter for the Bulldogs.

Houser improved to 15-5 on the year while striking out four batters in the complete game victory.

Game Two - Wingate 8, Lenoir-Rhyne 6

Laskey hit a three-run home run and a grand slam to power the Bulldogs to the victory in the nightcap as Wingate completed the doubleheader sweep.

Wingate erased a 5-1 deficit thanks to Laskey, who connected on a three-run home run in the third inning before her grand slam gave the Bulldogs the lead for good in the fifth frame.

Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite the play of senior shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.), who finished with a two-run triple, a solo home run and three runs batted in.

Landreth added three hits and an RBI as well but sophomore Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) fell to 11-5 on the year after taking the loss. Houser (16-5) came on in relief to earn her second victory on the day.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road Saturday to face Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader in Jefferson City, Tenn., beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wingate hosts league-foe Anderson in a doubleheader on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
