Lenoir-Rhyne University claimed three of the four first-ever South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Athlete-Of-The-Week honors, league officials

announced today.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior Jarrod Spears (Bunnlevel, N.C.) was named the league's men's track athlete of the week after winning both the 100-meter (10.76) and 200-meter (22.33) dashes at the 2014 PowerSox Invitational this past Saturday at home.

Spears, an all-region honoree last year, was part of the men's 400-meter relay team (41.88) which finished first as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Brooke Robinson (Newton, N.C.) was named the SAC Women's Track Athlete Of The Week. Robinson set school records in both the women's 100-meter (12.56) and 200-meter (25.32) dashes at the PowerSox Invitational as well.

Robinson won the 200-meter competition while finishing second in the 100-meter dash. Robinson was also part of the team's 400-meter relay team which set a school record (49.85) and finished second overall.

Finally, freshman Domonique Jones (Greensboro, Ga.) was selected as the conference's women's co-field athlete of the week. Jones broke school records in the discus (122'7") and hammer (131'11") throws.

Jones' throw in the discus was good enough for a first-place finish and she placed second in the hammer. Jones shares the award this week with Carson-Newman's Tiana Mills.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams next compete in the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C., on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.
