The Watauga Storm 16-and-under boys' basketball team won the Stateline Madness Tournament in Bristol, Va., March 22-23.



The Storm went 5-1 throughout the weekend to win the tournament in the Varsity division. Watauga's only loss was against Richlands High School 73-70 in the last of three games played Saturday in pool play. Despite the loss, the Storm still managed to be the No.1 seed in its pool.


In bracket play Sunday morning, the Storm defeated the Virginia Cardinals out of Norton, Va., 73-56. They knocked off the Lebanon High Hawks out of Lebanon, Va., 74-51 in the semifinals and they knocked off the No.1 overall seed, the Tennessee High Vikings out of Bristol, TN., 69-56 in the championship game.


The Storm shot a blistering 63% from the floor and had 11 three pointers in the win. Watauga averaged 71 points per game throughout the tournament.


The Storm travels to Wilkesboro, N.C., for the Fifth Annual Mountain Valley Roundball Classic on Saturday.
