After splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, the Appalachian State University softball team upended Western Carolina 7-4 in the series finale on Sunday.

The Mountaineers (11-16 overall, 3-2 Southern Conference) tied a season high by pounding out 12 hits. And Ashley Best of the Mountaineers led the charge with a pair of home runs.

WCU (13-18; 3-3) chipped away with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Kara Salvo. That made it, 6-3, but the Black and Gold added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Parker. Dani Heichen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter), who scored on the play, had two more stolen bases on the day; she's 12-for-12 on the year.
