Baker, Wood, Harrill Named All-NW3A/4A PDF Print

The Northwestern 3A/4A All-Conference basketball teams were announced on Saturday. The Watauga High basketball teams had three all-NW3A/4A selections.

 

 

 

Senior Cameron Baker, who was also named to the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association All-District 11 team, was named all-conference in boys' basketball. He averaged 14.7 points, 6.3 rebounds a game, and he shot 58% from the floor.

 

Fellow senior Jay Harrill was named Honorable Mention. Harrill, WHS' leading scorer, averaged 16.9 ppg. He shot 56% from the floor, and 44% from the three point line (he was second on the team in that category behind Matt Lambert, who shot 46%).

 

Harrill was WHS' leading free throw shooter at 82%. He was also fourth on the team in assists (2.0), and third on the team in rebounds (5.0).

 

Savanna Wood was named all-conference for the WHS girls. She led the Pioneers with a 13-point scoring average, she was fifth on the team in rebounding (3.0), she also led the team in steals (3.0) and assists (2.8).

 

She shot 45% from the floor (second on the team) and she shot a team-best 34% from the three-point line.

 

Danasia Witherspoon of Hickory was named the girls' Player of the Year and Jeff Parham of South Caldwell was named the girls' Coach of the Year; for the boys, Devonte Fuller of Hickory was named Player of the Year and Casey Rogers, the District 11 Coach of the Year, was named the NW3A/4A Coach of the Year.
