Limestone Edges Bears, 6-4 PDF Print

The Limestone Baseball Team (11-16) downed Lenoir-Rhyne (6-23), 6-4, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference, regional game at Founders Stadium. The Saints' Julian Bridges (Shelby, N.C.) finished with three hits and a pair of runs batted in while Chad Balderman (Irmo, S.C.) added a solo home run to lead Limestone to the




Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite the play of junior second baseman Brantley Rumford (Rock Hill, S.C.), who totaled four hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Rumford also led off the game with a solo home run in the setback.


Limestone took the lead for good with a four-run first inning capped off by a Bridges' two-run single.


On the mound, Limestone's Kyle Cliff (Concord, N.C.) (2-2) allowed just two runs over six innings of work to go along with five strikeouts while J.M. Spangler (Forest City, N.C.) pitched the final three innings for his first save of the year.


Lenoir-Rhyne junior outfielder Ivan Vieitez (Miami, Fla.) added two hits and two runs batted in but freshman John Curtis (Lenoir, N.C.) fell to 0-4 after suffering the loss.


Lenoir-Rhyne opens a South Atlantic Conference weekend series against Carson-Newman on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. Limestone plays Barton in Wilson, N.C., on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
