The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (22-5, 4-0), ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division II, made it seven wins in a row with a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader
sweep of Newberry (15-11, 2-2), 9-1 and 3-0, Wednesday afternoon at Bears Field.
Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 9, Newberry 1 (six innings)
L-R senior outfielder Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) and freshman outfielder Dakota Keller (Mooresboro, N.C.) each hit a two-run home run to lead the Bears to the victory.
Coursen finished with a game-high four runs batted in as well while Keller's home run ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bears run-ruled the Wolves.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) improved to 11-2 on the year after picking up the victory while Newberry's Madison Burnett (Pickens, S.C.) (4-4) took the loss.
Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Newberry 0
L-R sophomore Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) threw her sixth shutout of the year as the Bears completed the doubleheader sweep of the Wolves.
Hoskins improved to 11-3 on the year after limiting Newberry to just six hits to go along with seven strikeouts in the win.
L-R senior second baseman Ciera Cockerham (Yadkinville, N.C.) and freshman designated player Ashley Oliver (Newton, N.C.) each hit a solo home run to lead the Bears offensively. Newberry's Brittany Middleton (Lizella, Ga.) (9-3) suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Newberry, meanwhile, takes on Anderson Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in a league doubleheader in Anderson, S.C.
