L-R Rallies To Beat Shepherd, 12-11 PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (5-2) rallied late for a 12-11 win over Shepherd (5-2) Sunday afternoon at Ram Stadium. L-R sophomore midfielder Bailey Leonard (Cornelius, N.C.) broke an 11-11 tie with the match-winning goal with 4:08 remaining to lift the Bears to the win.

 

The Bears were led by junior midfielder Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.), who finished with a match-high four goals and assisted on the winning score.

 

Senior midfielder Hayley Beattie (Lebanon, N.J.) also scored three times for Lenoir-Rhyne, who rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the second period to take the road win.

 

Shepherd was led by Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, Md.) with four goals and Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md.) added two goals and a pair of assists in the losing effort.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne also held a 33-25 edge in shots taken and a 32-28 advantage in ground balls while senior goalkeeper Ashley Gruning (Jackson, N.J.) earned her first win of the season. Gruning finished with six saves for the Bears.

 

For Shepherd, goalkeeper Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, Md.) took the loss despite totaling 11 saves on the afternoon.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne next travels to Lake Erie, Pa., to take on Gannon on Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m. Shepherd hosts Seton Hill on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

 

 

Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Defeats Chowan, 5-4

 

 

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team (6-8) upended Chowan (10-6), 5-4, Sunday morning at the Chowan Tennis Complex. With the victory, the Bears have now won two of their past three matches.

 

L-R was led by senior Lela Sparks Thompson (Hickory, N.C.), who at third singles and second doubles. Thompson's win in singles play over Chowan's Holly Stambaugh (Como, N.C.), 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4, proved to be the match-winner.

 

Junior Zorica Djuric (Belgrade, SERBIA), senior Lacey Lapp (Maitland, Fla.) and junior Maggie Brown (Cranford, N.J.) all won at singles for the Bears on the day as well.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Queens in a South Atlantic Conference match on Monday at Hickory High School beginning at 2:00 p.m. Chowan, meanwhile, hosts Virginia State in a CIAA match on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

Chowan Nips Lenoir-Rhyne, 5-4 In Men's Tennis

 

 

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team (4-10) lost a close match to Chowan (7-5), 5-4, Sunday morning at the Chowan Tennis Complex. The Bears have suffered four one-point setbacks this year.

 

L-R freshman Hunter Pack (Cramerton, N.C.) and junior John Christian Reid (Claremont, N.C.) led the way for the Bears despite the loss. Pack and Reid both won in singles and doubles play.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne plays its third match in as many days when the Bears face Queens in a South Atlantic Conference match on Monday at 2:00 p.m., at Hickory High School.

 

Chowan remains at home to take on Virginia State in a Conference Carolinas match on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
