And that may be an understatement. Joseph Lowder of the Ashe County High baseball team tossed another gem. And this time it was nearly perfect. Lowder, who struck out 13 men in a lopsided win against West Caldwell on March 1, tossed a no-hitter against Avery in his second appearance of the year. Lowder went six innings and struck out 14 batters as the Huskies cruised to a 10-0 mercy rule win against Avery on March 11.

Lowder helped his own cause as he drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. And leading 3-0, the Huskies (2-1) broke the game open in the fifth inning by scoring four runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Laws preserved his no-no by making a heads up play on a slow-rolling bunt to third to get the final out. Ashe County closed things out with by scoring three more times in the bottom of the sixth.

The Huskies play at Alleghany Tuesday.
