Cobras Take Second At National Championships PDF Print

The Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute Men’s Basketball team lost to Rock Valley College (Rockford, Ill.) 79-69 in the Division III National Championship game Saturday night in Loch

Sheldrake, N.Y.



The second place finish is the best in CCC&TI Athletics history. This year’s team finished with a 29-7 record, winning the Region X and District VII tournaments.

The Cobras came out strong, took an early lead, and maintained it early into the second half before Rock Valley heated up. The Eagles finally came to life offensively and outscored the Cobras 55-37 in the final stanza.


Rock Valley (29-5) shot 67% percent from the floor in the second half. They were 6-10 from the three-point line.


The Cobras were led by Lawrence Jackson, who had 21 points and 9 rebounds. Also

leading the way were Dre McDowell with 14 points and 4 assists, and TJ Wilson with 10

points and 8 rebounds.


Jackson, a freshman from Rocky Mount, N.C., was named to the D-III National Championship All-Tournament Team.
