Salisbury Downs WHS Netters PDF Print

The Watauga High boys' tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision at Salisbury on Thursday. The Hornets took control of the match with three consecutive victories at No.6 singles, No.1 doubles and No.2 doubles.

 

Leading 3-2, David Derrick of Salisbury defeated Josh Lampkins, 6-1. 6-0, at No.6 singles. The Hornets clinched the match when Michael Ogden and Spencer Storey teamed up at No.1 doubles and defeated Landon Taylor and Caleb Gould of the Pioneers, 8-4. That win gave Salisbury a commanding 5-2 lead.

 

Dristen Trate and Brody O'Neal picked up wins for WHS in singles play. Trate defeated Clint Comadoll of the Hornets at No.2 singles, 7-6, 6-4; O'Neal defeated Chris Derrick in straight sets at No.5 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

 

Will Spinetto and Josh Lampkins picked up a win for the Pioneers at No.3 doubles. They defeated David and Chris Derrick, 9-8. Andrew Skeens and Blake Howser of the Pioneers won their exhibition match in doubles play.

 

The Pioneers travel to Newton-Conover for a non-conference match Monday.

WHS JV SOCCER POSTPONED....

 

 

Watauga High girls' soccer coach Brittany Bolick announced Thursday afternoon that the junior varsity game between the Pioneers and Ashe County had been postponed for the second time in two days. No make up date has been announced. The Pioneers (3-0-2 at the varsity level) travel to Avery for a varsity-only game tonight at 6:30 p.m.
