The Freedom High boys' basketball team, the No.3 seed in the NCHSAA Class 3A Western Regional, defeated North Forsyth 76-59 at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots (30-1) broke out to a 21-5 lead early in the second period, and their advantage was never cut inside five points in a 76-59 victory that sent Freedom to its first state title game in nearly a generation.

Freedom outrebounded North Forsyth (22-9) by a tone-setting 15-5 margin in the opening period and 47-27 for the contest.

Gabe Logan led the Patriots with 20 points; Khris Gardinm, who buried a huge three in the regional semifinals against Weddington, finished with 11 points.

Freedom will be lookiing for its third state championship, and the first under head coach Casey Rogers, who was a point guard on Freedom's state title team in 1997-98. Ironically, that team was coached by Rogers' father, Terry.

The Patriots will play Wilson-Hunt in the state finals Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. Wilson-Hunt defeated Hillborough-Orange, 66-60.
