Mountaineers’ Sun Belt Slate is Set PDF Print

Appalachian State University’s first NCAA Division I FBS football schedule was finalized on Saturday when the Sun Belt Conference announced its 2014 slate. While Appalachian State’s home and away Sun Belt opponents for 2014 have been set since last fall, dates for the Mountaineers’ eight conference games were not known until Saturday.

Appalachian’s first-ever Sun Belt game is set for Sept. 27 and features a familiar foe, longtime Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern. The Mountaineers and Eagles have met 29 times since 1932, including 22 matchups as SoCon adversaries from 1993-2013. App State leads the all-time series, 16-12-1, including a 12-10 edge since ‘93. Most recently, the Mountaineers have upset the favored Eagles each of the last three seasons, including knocking GS off its perch atop the NCAA Division I FCS rankings in 2011 and ‘12.

One week later, Appalachian State hosts its first Sun Belt Conference opponent when it welcomes South Alabama to Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Oct. 4 matchup versus USA is the first of four Sun Belt games that Appalachian hosts at The Rock in 2014, as Georgia State (Nov. 1), Louisiana-Monroe (Nov. 8) and Idaho (Nov. 29) also make their first visits to Boone.

In addition to the conference opener at Georgia Southern, App State also hits the road for Sun Belt games at Troy (Oct. 18), Arkansas State (Nov. 15) and Louisiana-Lafayette (Nov. 22) .

Previously announced non-conference games at Michigan (Aug. 30), versus Campbell (Sept. 6), at Southern Miss (Sept. 20) and versus Liberty (Oct. 11) round out Appalachian’s inaugural 12-game FBS schedule. The Mountaineers have byes on Sept. 13 and Oct. 25.

Kickoff times and specialty dates (Family Weekend, Homecoming, Black Saturday, etc.) will be announced at a later date.

Season tickets for all six Appalachian State home games in 2014 are on sale now and can be purchased online at appstatesports.com/tickets or by phone at (828) 262-2079. Half-season ticket packages will be available in the near future and single-game tickets go on sale on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
