The Catawba Baseball Team (7-8, 3-3) outlasted Lenoir-Rhyne (4-12, 1-8) in a pitchers' duel Friday night in a South Atlantic Conference game at Bears Field. Catawba's John Tuttle (Kannapolis, N.C.) (2-1) allowed just one unearned run in addition to striking out 12 batters in the complete game victory as the Indians won their third straight contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior Eric Ryan (Baltimore, Md.) fell to 0-2 on the season despite going the distance as well. Ryan allowed just two unearned runs while scattering five hits with two strikeouts in the losing effort.

L-R sophomore third baseman Josh Murphy (Hudson, N.C.) scored the Bears' lone run in the bottom of the first inning but the Indians answered with a pair in the third frame.

Catawba's Keaton Hawks (Lexington, N.C.) came through with the game-winning RBI single in the inning, plating Blake Houston (Mount Ulla, N.C.), before the contest remained scoreless the rest of the way.

The two teams will meet in a doubleheader to finish off the South Atlantic Conference weekend series on Saturday afternoon at Bears Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
