The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team (4-3, 0-1) suffered an 8-1 setback to Newberry (7-4, 3-1) in its South Atlantic Conference opener on Thursday at Cannon Courts. The Wolves entered the match ranked No. 10 in the region.

 

Despite the loss, L-R did prevail at first singles as junior Zorica Djuric (Belgrade, SERBIA) triumphed over Newberry's Susana Aguirre (Guayaquil, ECUADOR), 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8).

 

Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference game on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Hickory High School.

Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Suffers 8-1 Loss To Newberry

 

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team (2-4, 0-1) was handed an 8-1 defeat by Newberry (4-4, 2-2) Thursday afternoon at Cannon Courts in the Bears' South Atlantic Conference opener.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne did prevail at third doubles despite the loss to Newberry.

 

L-R junior John Christian Reid (Claremont, N.C.) and sophomore Matthew Ledford (Lincolnton, N.C.) won at No. 3 doubles over Newberry's David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) and Jeffery Kiser (Newberry, S.C.) by a score of 9-8.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference match on Sunday afternoon at Hickory High School beginning at 1:00 p.m.
