The Citadel’s Jamaal Brantley and Appalachian State’s Matt Layne have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the

Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Brantley tied a personal best in the 60-meter with a time of 6.44 seconds at the Gamecock Indoor Invitational over the weekend. He currently ranks first in the conference in the 60-meter. Layne moved into second place in the SoCon pole vault list this year after clearing 15-9 at the Pre-Conference Meet over the weekend. His jump set a new personal record. Elon’s Sydney Griffin and Appalachian State’s Makayla Roten were selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend.

The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches. Griffin finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 at the Virginia Tech Challenge, setting a new school record. Her time set a new top mark in the SoCon this season. Roten set a new personal record in the high jump, clearing 5-9 1/4, which was also good enough to set a new Holmes Center record.
