White Places Second At Irish Creek Invitational PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Golf Team moved up three spots Tuesday and finished the final round in sixth place out of 18 teams at the Irish Creek Invitational at The Club at Irish Creek.

 

L-R carded a 609 (+41) on the par-71, 7,099-yard course while Newberry won the tournament with a 586 (+18).

 

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by senior John White (Dudley Shoals, N.C.), who placed second overall with a 143 (+1) after falling in a playoff to Charlotte's Thomas Rowland. Rowland played as an independent.

 

L-R senior Drew Alford (Statesville, N.C.) tied for 31st overall with a 153 (+11) as well.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in the Richard Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C., on March 3-4.

Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Falls Short Against Third-Ranked Adelphi In Overtime

 

 

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (1-2) nearly upset No. 3 Adelphi (1-0) but came up short in overtime, 11-10, Tuesday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

 

The Panthers' Nick Watson (Manchester, ENGLAND) scored the game-winner 57 seconds into the first overtime as Adelphi prevailed in its first match of the year. Watson finished with three goals in the contest.

 

L-R was led by senior midfielder Imari Davis (San Marcos, Calif.) with three goals and two assists as the Bears rallied from a 10-7 deficit in the fourth period to force overtime despite the loss.

 

Adelphi's Joe Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also scored three times and the Panthers held the edge in both shots taken (53-29) and ground balls (27-22) in the victory.

 

L-R junior midfielder Jon Hanlon (Haymarket, Va.) added two goals including the match-tying score with 6:53 remaining in the fourth period to force overtime tied at 10.

 

In goal, the Panthers' Aidan Bennardo (Cutchogue, N.Y.) earned the win after making nine saves while L-R junior Alex Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took the loss despite stopping 19 shots on the night.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne next travels to Greeneville, Tenn., to take on Tusculum, a first-year program, in the team's first South Atlantic Conference match of the year on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Adelphi plays Mars Hill on Thursday at 4:00 p.m., in Mars Hill, N.C.
