Appalachian State University women’s tennis wrapped up a three-match road trip with a 5-2 win over Presbyterian on Sunday at the Templeton Tennis Courts.


The Mountaineers (2-4) dropped the doubles point, but rallied in singles play to pick up the win over the Blue Hose (3-5-1) and snap a two-match losing streak.


Appalachian’s team of Clare Cox/Megan Mullen picked up an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles, but Presbyterian picked up an 8-7 win at No. 1 and an 8-3 win at No. 3 to claim the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead in the match.


The Mountaineers stormed back to grab wins in the first three singles flights. Cox won her match at No. 1 by a final of 6-1, 6-0 while MacKenzie LaSure snagged a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. In the No. 3 singles match, Gabrielle Wreder fell behind early, but picked up the win (4-6, 2-1) when her opponent retired in the second set.


Brianna Armellino dropped a hard-fought battle (6-0, 4-8, 10-6) match at No. 4, but the Mountaineers clinched the match win when Jessica Thaggard won at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0) and picked up an extra point as McKayla Zupan grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.


The Mountaineers return home when they face Lees-McRae on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Yohnalossee Racquet Club in the first of four-straight home matches.
