McRae Wins High Jump Title At Indoor Championships PDF Print

Lees-McRae senior Persephanie McRae won the women’s high jump while senior teammate Kortnie Curry finished second to pace the LMC Track & Field squads at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championship at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

 

 

McRae (Brooklyn, N.Y.) cleared 5 feet, 3 inches on her second attempt to claim the individual title while Curry (Lexington, N.C.) hit the same mark, but on her third attempt. Freshman Makayla Boswell earned a seventh-place finish with a leap of 05-01.00. Both earned all-conference recognition for their performances.

 

Freshman Erin Bingham wrapped up an impressive campaign by earning second-team all-conference accolades while finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.25 seconds. The Jefferson, N.C., native notched a time of 27.60 in the 200-meter dash to finish 12th while grabbing an 11th place finish in the 400-meter run at 1:05.13.

 

Junior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) earned the Bobcats two points with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:02.59.

 

Junior Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) shined for LMC in the women’s shot put by finishing second with a heave of 38 feet, 0.75 inches to receive an all-conference merit while teammate Kayla Powell (Moyock, N.C.) swiped seventh with a distance of 35-6.00.

 

The women’s squad finished seventh with 36 points, besting Converse by four. Mount Olive won the team title with 132 points while King finished second with 79.50.

 

On the men’s side, senior Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) produced a six-point performance while finishing third in the weight throw with a toss of 43-11.25 and claimed third-team all-conference recognition.

 

The quartet of Devante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.), Michael Davis (Independence, Va.), Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.) and Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) grabbed third in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:52.69, and besting their next competitor by 11.20 seconds.

 

Scott earned a top-10 finish in the 400-meter run while producing a time of 52.80 seconds to claim ninth.

 

Junior sprinter Joshua Soto earned a pair of top-10 finishes after finishing seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 60-meter (7.40) and 200-meter dash (23.88).

 

Freshman Colby Shell (Ferguson, N.C.) completed the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:50.37 to take eighth place.

 

Justin Floyd (Newton, N.C.) swiped eighth with a jump of 20-6.50 in the men’s long jump.

 

Mount Olive won the team title with 131 points while North Greenville staved off Limestone with a 109-point performance. The Bobcats finished seventh with 15 points.

 

LMC begins its Outdoor Track & Field season at the Power Sox Invitational in Hickory, N.C. March 22.
