The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team improved to 9-3 on the season after defeating Pfeiffer (6-1) and Belmont Abbey (4-1) Sunday on the final day of the Catawba Invitational at Salisbury Community Park.


Lenoir-Rhyne 6, Pfeiffer 1

Freshman outfielder Ashley Oliver (Newton, N.C.) and freshman first baseman Sydney Landreth (Disputanta, Va.) each hit a home run to lead the Bears to the win.


Oliver's home run, a two-run shot, was part of a three-run first inning for Lenoir-Rhyne while Landreth hit a home run for the third consecutive game.


L-R sophomore Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) improved to 5-1 on the year after limiting Pfeiffer to just one run on two hits. Freshman catcher Sarah Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) also drove in a pair of runs for the Bears.


For the Falcons, Jaclyn Boever (Bostic, N.C.) hit a home run but Kaitlin Macmillan (Westbrook, Conn.) (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound.


Lenoir-Rhyne 4, Belmont Abbey 1

Senior third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) hit a two-run home run and sophomore Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) limited the Crusaders to just two hits in the win.


Hoskins improved to 3-2 on the year after going the distance and striking out seven batters on the day.


Jarman's home run came in the sixth inning and was part of a four-run frame as the Bears rallied from a 1-0 deficit. Senior second baseman Ciera Cockerham (Yadkinville, N.C.) hit a two-run single in the inning as well for the Bears.


Belmont Abbey's Catelyn Presley (Charlotte, N.C.) took the loss on the mound and the Crusaders lost their third straight game.


Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host Lees-McRae in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Bears Field.
