Demetre Kostis had a pretty productive day on Friday at the Class 4A State Wrestling Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The Watauga High advanced to the state finals by knocking off Kollin Wade (43-4) of Cary 5-4 in the 132 pound weight class in the state semifinals.

 

 

Kostis will face Garrett Hinton of Jack Britt in the state finals tonight at 6 p.m.. It will be the first match on tonight's championship card.  Hinton (46-3) defeated Austin Jamison of Northwest Guilford 6-4 in overtime in his semifinal match.

 

Kostis (55-1) becomes the first WHS wrestler to reach the state finals since his older brother, Savva, and Jacob Earp made it back in 2008. Travis Coffey and Jacob Earp were WHS' last state champions in 2006.
