Lees-McRae sophomore Jenah Tracy and senior Katelin Rooney combined for nine goals while the women's lacrosse team drubbed Brevard in its season opener, 18-0, in nonconference action Friday afternoon at Brevard Lacrosse Field in Brevard, N.C.
The Bobcats (1-0) have won consecutive season openers by a combined score of 38-4 while Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) earned a clean slate and two saves. The Tornados (0-1) struggled on both sides while playing a man down the entire game.
Tracy (Naples, Fla.) gave LMC a quick 2-0 lead following a pair of goals in the first 65 seconds of play. Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Callie Gregg (Roanoke, Va.) netted a goal each to put the Bobcats up 4-0 within five minutes of action.
Freshman Kirsten English (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Rooney (Naples, Fla.) notched two goals apiece over the next 13 minutes. Sophomore Taylor Drake (Jupiter, Fla.) earned a goal and an assist in the first 30 minutes of play while LMC held a healthy 11-0 lead.
Tracy reciprocated her first half success by notching LMC's first goal of the second following a pass from Gregg, to find the back of the net at the 27:47 mark.
The offensive onslaught continued while Rooney collected two more goals and Julia Colburn (Mooresville, N.C.) recorded her first collegiate goal with 6:22 remaining, 17-0.
Tracy paced the high-scoring Bobcat offense with five goals while Rooney recorded four and won eight draws. English was equally as impressive with a hat trick and victorious on four draws.
BC's Julia Gasston recorded the only two shots for the home squad. LMC forced 21 turnovers while peppering the BC goalie with 36 shots. The Tornados' Brianna Bangle amassed 15 saves.
The Bobcats return to action with a trip to Catawba Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
