The Appalachian State University softball team picked up its first win of the year Sunday with a 4-1 win against Presbyterian at the Buffalo Wild Wings Spartan Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
Winning pitcher Shivaun Landeros (1-4) threw a gem. She went the distance and allowed a run on eight hits for the Mountaineers. Landeros also helped her won cause with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, snapping a 1-1 tie.
Landeros stranded seven runners, and the Blue Hose (0-5) scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of singles, a sacrifice bunt, and a ground ball out by Jordan Ashley pushed across the tying run.
Ashley Seering had two hits and drove in a run for the Mountaineers, who only made six hits on the day. Appalachian State travels to Memphis, TN., to play in a tournament. The Mountaineers take on Murray State in the opening round next Friday at 1 p.m.
