|L-R Women's Lacrosse Prevails In Season Opener|

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (1-0) opened its 2014 season with a 19-2 win over St. Andrews (0-1) Sunday afternoon at Knights Field.
L-R junior Jamie Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the way with a match-high four goals while sophomore Claire Wach (Cary, N.C.) and senior Hayley Beattie (Lebanon, N.J.) each scored three times in the win for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first 10 goals of the match including four goals in the first five minutes of action en route to a 13-1 halftime advantage and never looked back.
Wach also tallied five draw controls and junior Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.) and sophomore Bailey Leonard (Cornelius, N.C.) each scored twice as well for Lenoir-Rhyne in the win.
In goal, Lenoir-Rhyne senior Amanda Cotto (Fort Myers, Fla.) earned the victory after stopping three shots while St. Andrews' Blake Forkner (Savannah, Ga.) took the loss despite making 10 saves on the afternoon.
For the Knights, Jackie Jones (Springfield, Va.) and Catherine Lovallo (Old Bridge, N.J.) both scored in the losing effort as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Pfeiffer in its home opener on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium. St. Andrews, meanwhile, remains at home and faces Reinhardt on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne Swimming Ends The Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships On Several High Notes
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams finished the 2014 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships Sunday at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center with several more program records.
Wingate won both the women's and men's championships with 1,395.5 and 1,394.5 points, respectively. The Bulldogs swept the league titles for the second year in a row.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, the women's squad finished 10th overall with 245 points while the men's team tied for 13th with 173 points.
The L-R women's 400-yard freestyle relay team - consisting of sophomores Leah Watts (Hickory, N.C.), Samantha Garrett (Fort Bragg, N.C.) and Abigail McRea (Hickory, N.C.) and freshman Briana Wright (Columbia, S.C.) - set a new school record with a time of 3:38.37.
In addition, Watts' leg of 53.14 seconds leading off the relay and her time of 2:09.01 in the women's 200-yard backstroke where new program marks as well.
On the men's side for the Bears, Lenoir-Rhyne senior Teddy Esch (Lenoir, N.C.) swam a school-record time of 47.51 seconds on the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay event.
