Watauga High Athletic Director Tom Wright has announced that the Pioneers will play a varsity-only game against South Caldwell Monday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The girl's game tips off at 6:30 p.m.; the boy's game will follow. Coverage begins at 6:05 p.m. on Classic Hits 100.7 FM and GoBlueridge.net. There's a lot riding on the boy's game. If WHS wins, the Pioneers will tie Patton for fourth place. But the PIoneers, who beat Patton twice during the regular-season, would play the Panthers at home Tuesday night in the opening-round of the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference tournament. If WHS loses, the Pioneers will play at Patton.

"We're playing with momentum right now," said WHS coach Rob Sanders. "I feel we're starting to peak at the right time. I really beliieve the conference tournament, especially for the boys, is wide open. And we have a pretty good chance of going pretty deep in that tournament."

Keep in mind, the Pioneers are the only team to beat the top two seeds, Freedom and Hickory, in the NW3A/4A Conference this season. The WHS girls are a No.6 seed and will open the tournament at South Caldwell, the No.3 seed, Tuesday night.
