Ashe County Athletic Director Marc Payne has announced that the Class 2A Western Regional

championships being hosted by the Huskies have been moved to Saturday and Sunday due to inclement weather.



The restructured schedule is as follows:


Times for the NCHSAA Regional Wrestling have been made official:



1pm weigh-in 2pm start




12pm weigh-in 1pm start


The Watauga High wrestling team is competing in the Class 4A Western Regionals at Cornelius-Hough. The tournament has been rescheduled to start Saturday. The N.C. High School Athletic Association gave organizers permission to hold the second day of action Sunday, beginning at noon. Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials will determine when to hold the second day of the 4A regional at Hough.


Regional qualifiers for WHS consist of Alex Wetmore (106 pounds), Mark Townsend (120), Demetreus Kostis (132), Zach Tomer (138),  Jacob Rutz (220), Jeremiah Wooldridge (HWT). Weigh-ins will be held at noon and wrestling set to start at 1 for both Saturday and Sunday. Demetreus Kostis is currently ranked 3rd in the state at 132lb and Mark Townsend is ranked 7th at 120.
