The fifth-ranked Limestone Men's Lacrosse Team (1-0) opened the 2014 season with an 18-9 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (0-1) Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.




The Saints' Mike Messenger (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) led the way with four goals while Todd Nakasuji (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) added three goals and two assists in the victory.


Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite three goals each from senior Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.) and junior Jay Goldsmith (Jamestown, N.C.).


The Bears stayed close through most of the match and cut the margin to 11-8 on a goal by senior Imari Davis (San Marcos, Calif.) just 11 seconds into the fourth period. However, the Saints broke the contest open from there with six consecutive goals.


Limestone held the advantage in both shots taken (39-35) and ground balls (40-30) while Vinny Ricci (Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada) added three goals in the victory.


In goal, the Saints' Patrick Sheridan (Fairport, N.Y.) earned the win after stopping 12 shots on the day while the Bears' junior Alex Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss. Squires made seven saves in the losing effort.


Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Lees-McRae in its home opener on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium while Limestone plays Queens on the road in Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
