The Appalachian State University women's basketball fell to Chattanooga Saturday afternoon, 69-41.
The Mountaineers (9-13, 6-6 SoCon) struggled with their shooting touch for the majority of the game; the Mocs (20-3, 12-0) took advantage and won their sixteen consecutive game.
The Mocs dominated from the get-go as they jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half. App State went nearly three minutes without scoring until Maryah Sydnor broke the cold spell with a layup.
But by that time, Chattanooga was in complete control. The Mocs owned a comminding 40-16 halftime lead.
The Mocs continued their torrid pace in the second half., They scored 20 seconds in, and they went on a 10-0 run, building a 68-22 lead with 11:58 left in the game. Making matters worse, the Mountaineers went nearly seven minutes without a basket.
The Apps notched the most of their points toward the end of the game, scoring 16 points in the last five minutes, to make it somewhat respectable.
KeKe Cooper led the Mountaineers with 10 points. Mia Marshall and Amber Doniere each had seven rebounds. Sydnor was limited to six points by the Mocs stingy defense. The Apps shot 30.9 percent in the game, tallying 32 rebounds and 23 turnover.
Aryanna Gilbert led Chattanooga with 14 points. Taylor Hall and Meghan Downes each had 11 in the victory. Chattanooga shot 49.0 percent from the floor with 38 rebounds and 22 turnovers.
The Mountaineers travel to Birmingham, Ala., to play Samford Monday night at 7 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on AM 1450, WATA.
