The Tusculum Baseball Team (2-2, 1-0) opened South Atlantic Conference play with an 11-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (2-3, 0-1) Friday night at Pioneer Park.



Tusculum's Heath Comerford (Athens, Tenn.) finished with four hits and four runs batted in while Christian Raasch (Norcross, Ga.) allowed just one run over seven innings of work to pick up the victory.


Raasch (1-1) scattered seven hits to go along with nine strikeouts in the victory.


Tusculum took control early in the first inning with a four-run frame highlighted by Trey Drewery's (Vale, N.C.) two-run double.


The Pioneers put the game away with three more runs in the fourth inning, pushing their advantage to 7-0. Comerfield also had a two-run double in the frame.


Lenoir-Rhyne's lone run of the contest came in the fifth inning on sophomore third baseman Josh Murphy's (Hudson, N.C.) sacrifice fly which scored freshman catcher Jordyn Cruz (Vero Beach, Fla.).


Lenoir-Rhyne junior Jeremy Coburn (Louisburg, N.C.) suffered the loss. Coburn fell to 1-1 on the year. L-R junior second baseman Brantley Rumford (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished with two hits in the losing effort.


Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum will round out the three-game weekend conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
