Pollard Signs With Presbyterian PDF Print

Zac Pollard of South Caldwell, who missed last season with an ACL tear after rushing for more than 3,000 yards as a junior, has signed with Presbyterian, a Division I school in Clinton, S.C., and a member

of the Big South Conference.

 

 

Alexander Central: Basketball star Marie Ritchie, a 1,000-point career scorer for the Cougars, is going to LRU.....Baseball players signing: Josh McLain with N.C. State, Riley Smith with UNC-Asheville and Tad Ratliff with LRU.

 

Freedom: Record-setting wide receiver Khris Gardin signed with North Carolina A&T. He set school records at Freedom with 143 career catches for 2,502 yards and 32 TDs. He had a nine catch game for 180 yards last season against Watauga.

 

St. Stephens: Three Indians athletes signed, swimmer Marinela Procopii with Wingate, defensive end Stephen Carpenter for football with Limestone and girls soccer player Alex Roarke with LRU.

Procopii, a state qualifier in swimming each of her four years at St. Stephens, previously held two conference meet records and has completed in national level swimming for the YSST swimming team.

St. Stephens won four straight league titles with Procopii swimming, and her career includes top 8 prep finishes in regional and state competition.

This season, Procopii won Northwestern 3A-4A titles in the breaststroke and IM and was on winning 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams. In the regionals this week, she was second in the breaststroke, fifth in the IM and was on a second-place 400 freestyle relay and sixth-place 200 medley relay team.

 

South Caldwell: Quarterback Trevor Soles and wide receiver Nick Mathews, who are headed to Limestone. Soles completed 43.4 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 1,363 yards and seven TDs, and closed his career with 2,796 passing yards and 24 TDs.

Mathews had 28 catches for 298 yards, including six for 165 against Hickory, and caught four TD passes last year. He also kicked two field goals and 15 PATs.
