The Watauga High boy's and girl's indoor track teams closed out regular season play Monday night at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. North Stokes

was the host school.


The Pioneers posted 31 top-ten finishes. The boys had 14, the girls had 17. WHS also won two events---Alison Seramur won the girl's pole vault with a jump of ten feet, and Matt Osborne won the boy's 1,600-meter run in 5:28.51.


The WHS girls posted four second place finishes and one third place finish.


Kathleen Mansure finished second in the girl's 1,600 in 5:52.22, Savanna Randle finished second in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.75 seconds, Lily Weeks finished second in the 1,000-meter run (3:28.26), and WHS finished second in the 4x400-meter relay (Weeks, Kennedy Kavanaugh, Randle and Grace Plyler) in 4:35.77.


Randle finished third in the 300-meter run (45.19). Carrie Pennell finished fourth in the triple jump (28-02) and Plyler finished fourth in the 300 (45.81).


The WHS boys finished second in the 4x800 relay (Andrew Crumpler, Matt Hellenbrand, Conner Pate, Michael Holland) in 9:09.56, Kenon Fox finished third in the shot put (41-02), and Pete Conner finished third in the 1,000 (2:58.80).


Zack Pifer finished fourth in the high jump (5-0), Zach Styron finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.62), Hellenbrand finished fourth in the 500 (1:14.17), and Crumpler finished fourth in the 1,000 (3:01.97).


The Pioneers will send three qualifiers to the state championships at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Saturday, February 8. Mansure and Jacob Soule will represent WHS in the girl's and boy's 3,200-meter run; Seramur will represent WHS in the girl's pole vault.
