The Watauga Storm sixth grade boys team has just completed their January schedule. And the Storm, which went 5-5 during that stretch, posted three top-five finishes in tournament play.

The Storm turned in a third-place finish at the New Year’s Classic in Hillsville, VA, against teams from Virginia and North Carolina. They had a second-place showing at the 5th Annual West Wilkes Whirlies Hoopfest.

The Storm also posted a pair of impressive wins in that tournament. They knocked off Lenoir 52-50, and they snuck by the host team, the West Wilkes Whirlies, 47-44.

The Storm closed out the month with a fourth-place finish at the Bond Skills Invitational this past weekend against some high quality competition from the Triad area.

The Storm was led in scoring by Anderson Castle who averaged 12 points a game over the month of January. Jordan Gainey also averaged 7 points, Jaiden Bond and Jackson Miller have both averaged right around 6 points a game.

Jake Sears, Daylon Banks, Austin Idol, Mitchell Greene, Bryce Satterfield, Jake Watson, Alex Darner, and Andrew Freeman were key contributors for the Storm.

The Storm will compete in three more tournaments before closing things out at the Boone Roundball Classic in March.
