Jeremy Funderburk, who led the Wilkes Central High football team for nine seasons, has resigned.

Funderburk, a Yadkinville, N.C., native, officiall resigned last Thursday. During his nine year stay, Funderburk was 63-48 with the Eagles and he led them to three Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference championships.

He led the Eagles to the state playoffs seven times, which includes to trips to the Class 2A Western Semifinals in 2007 and 2010. Both those teams finished with 10-4 records.

The Eagles, who were hit hard by graduation last season, were 1-10 in 2013---their first losing season since 2005---which was also Funderburk's first season at Wilkes Central.

Prior to coming to Central, he served four seasons as defensive coordinator at Forbush High School. Prior to being named defensive coordinator, Funderburk spent three seasons coaching the offensive line and serving as the Falcons’ junior varsity coach.

The Watauga High football team travels to Moravian Falls to face the Eagles this fall.
