Canty, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound three-star prospect, from Riverdale High School in Riverdale., Ga., became the first commitment for Mason, who previously served as defensive coordinator at Stanford before accepting the Vanderbilt job.
Canty had 52 receptions for 852 yards and nine touchdowns en route to being named all-region and all-state season . Canty chose Vandy over Boise State, Minnesota, Wake Forest and Appalachian State. He visited Wake Forest over the weekend and then decommitted to Appalachian State on Sunday evening.
He had been committed to Appalachian State since late June, but started picking up bigger offers after a breakout senior season.
