Mountaineers in the NFL: January 18-19 PDF Print

San Francisco 49ers third-year offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore saw his season come to a close with a 23-17 loss to the top-seeded Seattle Seahawks in Sunday's NFC Championship game. For the 38th-straight

game, Kilgore saw action on the offensive line and on special teams. He delivered the key block on Anthony Dixon's one-yard touchdown run that gave the 49ers a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, drawing praise from FOX commentator and Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Troy Aikman.

Kilgore was the last of the 10 former Appalachian State football standouts currently on NFL rosters to be in action this season. In each of his three seasons in the NFL, his 49ers have reached the NFC title game. Last year, he became only the second Appalachian State alumnus to ever play in the Super Bowl when San Francisco lost to Baltimore in Super Bowl XLVII.

Earlier last week, Tony Washington made his case to become the next former Mountaineer to join the NFL ranks when he enjoyed an outstanding week at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif. The wideout, who led the Southern Conference with 939 receiving yards in 2013, was tabbed as the top practice performer of the week by Optimum Scouting's Mark Dulgerian. He followed up the strong showing in practice by hauling in a game-high-tying four receptions for 27 yards in Saturday's nationally televised game, despite his American team falling to the National squad, 31-17.
