Lenoir-Rhyne University's R.J. McClure has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
McClure, a senior guard from Canton, N.C., earns the weekly award for the second time this season. McClure shares the honor this week with Mars Hill's Isaiah Cuthbertson.
McClure averaged 37.0 points and 3.0 rebounds last week in addition to shooting 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from behind the three-point line and 57.5 percent (23-of-40) from the field.
In a 134-127 double overtime loss to Newberry last Wednesday in Newberry, S.C., McClure set a league record for points in a single game with 52 while hitting a school-record 12 three-pointers.
McClure followed that performance up by leading all scorers with 22 points with six treys last Saturday in a 79-61 setback to Anderson in Anderson, S.C.
McClure, a 2013-14 All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Preseason pick, currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring (20.1 ppg) and third in free throw percentage (.896) in addition to a team-leading 49 treys.
Lenoir-Rhyne (7-7, 6-4) looks to snap a two-game losing streak when it travels to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Queens (7-7, 5-5) on Wednesday night in Charlotte, N.C., beginning at 8:00 p.m., in a South Atlantic Conference game.
