The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams kicked off its 2014 indoor season at the Winston-Salem State Open Sunday at the JDL Fast Track.


L-R sophomore Kevin Baxter (Columbia, S.C.) placed first in the men's 60-meter hurdles and earned an NCAA Division II provisional mark with a school-record time of 7.93 seconds.


Baxter garnered NCAA D-II All-American honors in the event last season with a sixth-place finish in the national championship in Birmingham, Ala.


In addition, L-R sophomore Grace Turner (Lincolnton, N.C.) won the women's 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:12 while sophomore Zach Millsaps (Statesville, N.C.) finished second in the men's 3,000-meter run (9:18).


In the men's weight throw, junior Latham York (Huntersville, N.C.) placed third (45'5") while sophomore Vertrice Wilson (Carrollton, Ga.) ran a school-record 8.42 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash for the Bears.


The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams next compete in the Tar Heel Indoor Open on Saturday, January 25, in Chapel Hill, N.C., on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
