Sydnor Named NCEL Student-Athlete of Week PDF Print

Maryah Sydnor, a basketball player at Appalachian State, has been named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15, the league office announced

Wednesday.

 

 

Sydnor is a junior exercise science major from Radford, Va., and holds a 3.40 GPA. Sydnor was a member of the academic all-conference team in 2013.

 

The junior forward averaged a double-double in a pair of contests last week, putting up 22 points and 10 rebounds per game. Sydnor scored 24 points to lead the Mountaineers over Wofford on Saturday before posting her seventh double-double of the season in an overtime loss to Chattanooga on Monday. She led all players with 20 points and 14 rebounds, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the field and making all six of her free-throw attempts. Sydnor currently leads the SoCon in scoring at 20.2 points per game and free-throw percentage, knocking down 88.6 percent of her shots from the foul line.

 

Also nominated for NCEL Student-Athlete of the Week were Davidson’s Shannon Eriksson, Elon’s Kelsey Harris, Furman’s Jacob Behal, Chattanooga’s Taylor Hall and Samford’s Christy Robinson.
