Lenoir-Rhyne University's Jazmine Charles has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon. Charles wins the weekly
league honor for the second time this season.
Charles, a junior guard from Lexington, N.C., averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in leading L-R to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins at home over Wingate (71-61) and Tusculum (84-45) last Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.
Charles also shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the floor and hit four treys for the week as the Bears increased their winning streak to five games.
Charles started the week with a double-double - 24 points and 12 rebounds - against Wingate before leading all scorers with 25 points in the triumph over Tusculum.
Charles, a 2012-13 All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team honoree, currently leads the league in scoring (18.2 ppg) to go along with a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per contest. Charles is also first on the squad in free throw percentage (.877).
Lenoir-Rhyne (10-3, 5-3) is one game out of first place in the league standings and next faces Newberry (8-4, 4-4) in a conference contest on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., in Eleazer Arena in Newberry, S.C.
