Appalachian State University Track & Field coach John Weaver has been named to the Fayetteville Sports Club Hall of Fame in Fayetteville, N.C.
Weaver, a graduate of Fayetteville 71st High School in 1967, began his coaching career at Fayetteville-Douglas Byrd in the 1970s. At ASU, Weaver has been named Coach of the Year 42 times, and his teams have won 73 Southern Conference championships.
A varied class of five inductees has been chosen to be enshrined in the Fayetteville Sports Club Hall of Fame.
The group includes former city recreation leader George Crumbley, South View football coach Randy Ledford, Fayetteville Observer sports editor Thomas Pope, champion golfer Gary Robinson.
A date for this year's induction ceremony has not been set yet, Parks said, although it will likely be held in February. The date, time, location and ticket information will be announced later.
