The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (6-5, 5-2) moved into a second-place tie in the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 58-56 victory over

Wingate (8-3, 5-2) Wednesday evening at Shuford Gymnasium.

L-R sophomore guard Will Perry (Wake Forest, N.C.) led all scorers with 21 points while senior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) blocked a possible game-winning, three-point shot as time expired as the Bears held on for the win.

McClure and senior forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) added 12 points each for the Bears, who improved to 4-0 at home this year and won their seventh straight game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium dating back to last season. The two squads split the season series.

Wingate's Deion Turman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied a double-double - 18 points and 14 rebounds - and Isiah Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.) scored 14 points in the setback.

The tight contest featured nine lead changes and six ties while the Bears took the lead for good after capping off an 8-0 run with a three-pointer by McClure with 8:45 left for a 46-40 advantage.

Perry connected on four treys on the night while Lenoir-Rhyne limited Wingate to just five-of-20 shooting (25 percent) for the contest from behind the three-point line in the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face league-foe Tusculum on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., while Wingate travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to play Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
