The Texas Rangers, Major League parent club of the Hickory Crawdads, have announced the 2014 coaching staff for the 'Dads. Headlining the Crawdads staff

will be Manager Corey Ragsdale, who returns for his second year at the helm.


Strength and Conditioning Coach Wade Lamont will also return to Hickory for his second season, after serving in the same role in 2013. Joining Ragsdale and Lamont is new Pitching Coach Oscar Marin, Hitting Coach Bobby Rose and Trainer Sean Fields.


Ragsdale, 31, returns to the 'Dads after leading the team to the 3rd best overall record in the South Atlantic

League in 2013. The Jonesboro, Arkansas native

begins his sixth season in the Rangers organization, spending three as a player from 2007 - 09 before beginning his coaching career in 2011. The 2014season will be Ragsdale's 4th total with the Crawdads, including a stint as a relief pitcher in 2009 and an infield coach in 2011. Prior to last year, Ragsdale made his managerial debut with the Arizona League Rangers (Rookie) in 2012, guiding the team to the AZL Championship. "Rags" was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 2nd Round of the 2001 Draft and spent seven seasons as an infielder in the organization before coming to the Rangers.


Marin, 31, begins his fourth full season as a pitching coach in the Rangers system. The Las Angeles native served in the same capacity for the Spokane Indians (Short-A) in 2013, with his staff leading the Northwest League in strikeouts (681) while ranking second in ERA (3.28). Prior to last year, Marin spent two seasons as the pitching coach for the AZL Rangers while also spending the 2012 offseason as a pitching coach for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League. Marin pitched for the Las Angeles Valley College Monarchs from 2001 - 02 before playing for the University of Arkansas-Little Rock from 2003 - 04.


Rose, 46, enters his second season in the Rangers organization after making his professional coaching debut as the hitting instructor for Spokane in 2013. Before joining the coaching ranks, Rose enjoyed a standout career in Japan with the Yokohoma BayStars and Chiba Lotte Marines in the Japanese Central League from 1993-2000 and 2003. Rose led the BayStars to a league championship in 1998 and batted .339 with 37 home runs, 153 RBI and a then-league record 192 hits in 1999. A native of Covina, California, Rose was a 5th round selection in the 1985 draft by the California Angels. He spent eight seasons in the Angels organization and played a total of 73 games in the major leagues from 1989 - 92.


Fields, 29, comes to the Crawdads after spending the last two seasons as the head trainer in Spokane and four total years with the Rangers organization. Fields spent the 2010 - 11 seasons as the head trainer for the AZL Rangers and completed an internship with the Rangers' Dominican Summer League team in 2009. The Texas native completed his undergraduate work at Texas Tech University prior to earning his masters degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.


Lamont, 29, returns to the Crawdads for his second season as the team's Strength and Conditioning Coach, after spending the 2012 season in the same capacity for the AZL Rangers. Lamont was selected in the 29th round of the 2007 draft by the Detroit Tigers and spent three seasons in the Tigers farm system. The Omaha, Nebraska native batted .320 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI as a junior at Flagler (FL) College prior to being drafted. His father, Gene, is currently the third base coach for the Detroit Tigers.


The Crawdads 2014 season begins April 3 with a 7-game road trip to Greensboro and Kannapolis, before the 'Dads Home Opener on April 10 against Asheville. 2014 Season Tickets and Ticket Books are now on sale, as are tickets to the South Atlantic League All-Star game scheduled for June 17 at Crawdads Stadium.
