Pairings Announced For Catawba Valley Classic PDF Print

The Hickory Metro Sports Commission has announced the pairings for the 27th annual Catawba Valley Classic High School Basketball tournament that will be held Friday, December 27 thru Monday, December 30, 2013. There will be no games on Sunday, December 29th. The tournament will feature the men's and women's teams from eight area high schools competing in the three day event.

 

On the men's side Bunker Hill is the top seed in the men's bracket and will play #8 Hickory at 7:30 p.m. at Hickory High School, which serves as the site for the men's first two rounds. The other opening round match-ups in the men's division include #2 St. Stephens versus #7 South Caldwell (6:00 p.m.); #3 Newton-Conover versus #6 Maiden (4:30 p.m.); #4 Alexander Central versus #5 Fred T. Foard (9:00 p.m.). The second round of play will also be held at HHS on Saturday, December 28th and the final round on Monday will be held at Catawba Valley Community College.

 

On the women's side an undefeated Alexander Central team is the top seed in the women's bracket and will play #8 Fred T. Foard at 7:00 p.m. at Catawba Valley Community College, which serves as the site for the women's first two rounds. The other opening round match-ups in the women's division include #2 Hickory versus #7 Newton-Conover (4:00 p.m.); #3 South Caldwell versus #6 Bunker Hill (5:30 p.m.); #4 St. Stephens versus #5 Maiden (8:30 p.m.). The second round of play will also be held at CVCC on Friday, December 28th with the final round on Saturday moving to CVCC.

 

The Catawba Valley Classic has been well known throughout the region as the premier holiday high school event over the past 26 years. The Hickory Metro Sports Commission serves as the host organization for the event and distributes the gate receipts among the participating schools. Following the 2012 event each high school playing in the event received a donation of more than $2,700.
