The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (5-4) was dealt a 72-59 setback to Lander (6-5) Sunday afternoon at the Finis Horne Holiday Classic at Horne Arena.
The Bearcats' Michael Panaggio (Dayton Beach, Fla.) finished with a game-high 17 points and was one of four players to score in double figures for Lander, who won its second straight contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) tallied a team-high 13 points but the Bears shot just 33 percent (17-of-52) from the field in suffering their second straight loss.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 38-25 advantage at halftime and never looked back and was able to withstand a late rally by the Bears to take the win.
L-R senior guard Jarvis Perry (Willingboro, N.J.) hit a three-pointer with 7:13 left to cut the margin to 53-49 but Lander responded with an 8-0 run to take control again en route to the win.
J.R. Washington (Manassas, Va.) added 14 points and Mario Pendarvis (Summerville, S.C.) added a double-double - 13 points and 12 rebounds - as well for Lander, who hit eight three-pointers and held a 38-27 edge in rebounding.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore guard Will Perry (Wake Forest, N.C.) also scored in double figures with the Bears, finishing with 11 points in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday, January 4, at 8:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn.
