The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (7-3) upended seventh-ranked Clayton State (7-2), 73-66, Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic at the Athletics & Fitness

Center.

L-R junior guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.), the team's leading scorer, came off the bench to tally a game-high 18 points while sophomore guard Jordan Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 17 points for the Bears in the win.

The Bears broke a 57-all tie with a field goal by Hiatt with 5:34 left in the contest to give L-R the lead for good. Clayton State was led by Bena Hanyard (Marietta, Ga.) with 15 points in the setback. The Lakers also shot just 31 percent (four-of-13) from behind the three-point line.

Lenoir-Rhyne held a 44-32 advantage in rebounding in a contest which featured six ties and three lead changes. L-R also made 27 free throws compared to Clayton State's 12 made shots from the charity stripe in holding on for the victory.

L-R, which also won its second straight contest, received 11 points from senior forward Ashia Mitchell (Spartanburg, S.C.) as the Bears also forced the Lakers into 19 turnovers.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, January 4, against Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn., beginning at 6:00 p.m.
